The World is my House

“Looping”: repeating a sample of music or trying an aerobatic maneuver which puts you in unusual attitudes...

You’ll get all of that in this mix: the loop begins with a great instrumental (Cozi “Stamina”) christianized with the vocals of Mstrss “In Danger” and ends with the same tune. In total, 21 tracks (half of them christianized to some degree) with a few fantastic commercial tunes (including a dub of Eurovision’s Numa Numa!), as well as some bits that you will never hear anywhere else (unfortunately). Stolen Tunes of the month: Track 11 comes courtesy of the excellent Paul Martin and Track 16 from The magnificent Oli.

And since I’m sure you don’t need yet another podcast with 12 tracks mixed from beginning to end, you will get a fair share of “unusual mixing” (fasten your seat belts, it’s a looping after all), with a fast mixing pace and 2 or 3 tracks playing at the same time. Sometimes you will like the sound of it, sometimes you won’t... The same goes with Track 20: most of you will hate it but I think too many DJs take themselves too seriously and that track is my personal tribute to our Italian friends who know how to put some serious fun into House music!

That being said, I would rather you like the end result coz I do!

First of all, thanks for your support and apologies for not posting anything in a while: I’ve been 200% busy starting a company...

I’ve started this mix 3 months ago and it has grown from 15 to 38 tracks... I was way too busy to finalize it and good tracks kept coming my way. Eventually, I decided to make it a double (I will also post it under 2 CD-length parts to make it easier for you to go through all the tracks!). Hi! Just got back from a trip to fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, world capital of sin and cheese. While I was there, I had a few good new tunes I wanted to mix together and play in my big american car, so I decided to do it rough: just my laptop and a pair of iPod earphones, no sound card, no monitoring and all in one shot… The result is “Dirty Live in Vegas”, it’s raw, full of fuck-ups and key clashes, but I’ve finally decided to post it as a personal memory. I do hope, however, that you’ll like it too and, please, forgive me if you don’t  (after all, if Celine Dion, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra got to do their “Live in Las Vegas”, why not me? Eh eh).

It all starts very uplifting with 4 new mixes of great classics then we move to a fuller sound, big basses and nice diva vocals with some brand new and/or hard-to-get tracks. Not many “christianized” tracks here and not much trickery, due to the lack of monitoring possibility, so… don’t expect too much!

I did it again: just after posting « Replay », I went out and heard a fantastic track (courtesy of the excellent Mikey D) “Soul Central – Time after time” and, of course, it HAD to be on my mix. So I do what I do: christianize it, mix it in and post another version “Replay V2”…

“Replay” comes after 6 months of not posting anything ; I had 2 almost-ready mixes that I wasn’t fully satisfied with. Instead, I decided to wait until I had a bit of inspiration which I found 2 weeks ago, thanks to Jason Prince and an uber-catchy track which samples an old Madonna song “Rain”.

“Replay” uses and abuses samples and loops taken from that track and I’ve worked a lot to put together all the tracks I love at this moment, most of them “christianized” in order to make 19 tracks fit on a 80-minute CD.

As usual, you can expect big bass sounds and a variety of styles in there (housey, poppy, rocky, all uplifting though), lots of Wawa (again!) and some mixes I really like: 2-3, 4-5, 6-7-8, 8-9 (my favourite), 15-16 which mixes “Children of the Sun” from and into “Rain”, and the new end!

Never trust a house music junkie when he says he’s gonna stop! To all of you who have expressed their support, friendship and appreciation, I’ve decided to throw a “Surprise Party!”, live from San Francisco... vwhich explains the, hem, RAW sound and artwork but, hey, it's a party!

And this party is specially dedicated to Richard and Tony, founders and soul of Trax Records in London who have decided to move on with their lives as of May 3rd 2008. During many years they have supplied fantastic tunes to the London Clubbing Scene and for the past 3 years, I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy their friendship and passion for music. Together with the rest of the Trax Team (Craig and Oli), they have supported me, right from the early days of “Bitch is Back!” and, thanks to them, I’ve found many of the hard-to-get tracks featured in this podcast.

Let’s just say that May 3rd will be a sad day for me and I can only hope that Trax will live on, under one form or another, as a place to meet friends, chat about music and bitch about the weather. You can’t get do all that online… I know I’ll be there to enjoy the experience to its fullest: Trax Records, 55 Greek Street, London W1D 3DT, 020 7734 0795!

“Surprise Party!” starts with an Uber-Christianized track by Tina Bride (kick-ass bass mix courtesy of Dexxlab!), followed by Nick Wahlberg’s “Just shake it”, a flute-driven (!!!) vocal house anthem (I’m quite sure you’ve never heard those tracks before

You will also find a fair share of more commercial tracks (plenty of Gold & Smax again!): Till West, Addictive, Denis the Menace, Hard Fi… and some rarities like the latest Chris Punk (a cover of Daft Punk’s Aerodynamic) and the closing track (Moonbootica, Jan Delay, anyone?) which sounds like Daft Punk would sound now if they still made music…

Of course, some tracks have been “christianized”, and not just because I love this word (!) but to punch them up…

In 5 months, 5 new mixes & 5 old ones, I’ve tried to bring you the best upfront uplifting house music I could possibly mix with my personal style of christianized tracks and 3-minute-long mixes. Hi, it’s me again… The good news is that “White Label” has been downloaded more than a thousand times in 3 days (thanx!). The bad news is that I got the latest “Deux” a few minutes after posting my mix and I heard it over the week end in a club: wicked track (and I’m a long time fan)! So I did what I do: I “christianized” it to make it punchier and easier to my ears and I came up with a new version of the mix appropriately called “White Label 2”. It still fits on a CD and I thought you’d like more upfront music for the same low price . Apologies to those of you who have to download it again but that track is worth it!

“White Label” also features quite a few hot promos and bootlegs: for instance the new Hott 22, the new Ultra Nate having an affair with Britney Spears’ “Break the Ice” (I love the sound of this mix!). Also, no less than 4 Wawa tracks (these guys rock), some tracks I’ve missed (the amazing remixes of Moby’s “Raining again” and Armand van Helden “I want your soul”), and the fun and punchy Lizzie Curious’ “2Kool 4Skool”… Listen to the mix till the end! As always, I’ve christianized many tracks to make them sexier and I’ve tried to stay away from anything dark or dull (not easy, considering the current music production).

“Good Times” was made in June 2006 and is the 3rd mix of my Keith Haring’s Trilogy! It multi-samples the kick-ass “Have a good time” by TML ft Belle (one of the most underrated tracks ever) and some of the best house tracks ever made: N-Joi “Anthem”, Miami Ice “Better than perfect”, Supermode “Tell me why” and a very rare bootleg of The Source “U got the love”, given to me by the amazing Steve Pitron himself (the man is not only one of the best DJs ever, but also a fantastic human being .

Add this to the fact that I am (as always!) quite happy with myself with some of the mixes and you’ll understand why “Good Times” remains one my favourite and I hope it will be one of yours too… Let me know!

“Bitch is Back!” was mixed in March 2006, when I returned to London, after 2 years in Paris. I couldn’t resist to name it it after the 1st track, given my personal situation, and I found the perfect picture for the cover: a Keith Haring drawing featuring a bitch / dj… Needless to say, I borrowed it immediately and got the idea of starting a Keith Haring trilogy. But that, my friend is for the next episodes!

“Bitch is Back!” multi-samples the amazing DJ Jose “Stepping to the Beat” and I’m sure the whole CD will bring fond memories to all of you! I know it still works for me and I’m sooo proud of the 8-9 and 10-11 mixes! Hope you’ll like it!

“One For the Road” starts with a bit of uplifting vocal stuff, then gets to some more pumping tracks to keep you up to date with what's happening in London now (and probably more!)

We begin with the ever reliable Mary J Blige remixed once again by Moto Blanco, the new Chanel fusionned with the new Booty Luv.
